Vasily Nebenzia, Russia's ambassador and representative to the United Nations, said on Tuesday at a UN Security Council meeting on Resolution 2231: "We strongly condemn Israel's attack on Iran's nuclear facilities, which is a violation of the UN Charter and the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons."

The Russian ambassador, sarcastically regarding Israel's presence at the meeting, said: "Israel's presence at this meeting, which is not a substitute for the NPT treaty, is very strange to us. Why should Israel be present at the Security Council meeting?"

The Russian representative to the UN also said: Iran has not been able to take advantage of the benefits of the lifting of sanctions. The US withdrawal and the failure to lift sanctions have rendered the JCPOA useless.

Criticizing the Europeans, the Russian ambassador said: Iran is the country that is subject to the most inspections and the Agency has not observed any evidence that Iran intends to build nuclear weapons.

He stated: "The hypocrisy of our European colleagues caused the Board of Governors to issue a resolution against Iran, and then Israel and then the United States attacked Iran's nuclear facilities."
